Summer concert series starts June 8

Summer Concert SeriesCome relax on several Saturday nights this summer to listen to great music in Westbury UMC’s Memorial Gardens (the courtyard near the Chapel). Grab your lawn chair or blanket and a picnic dinner, if you like!

Saturday, June 8, at 6:00 pm
Brazos River Turnaround is a contemporary Christian worship band singing mainly original tunes. Take some Rascal Flatts, add some Mercy Me, and sprinkle in a bit of Brooke Frasier, and you have BRT. Incorporating artistic instruments such as the cello, they sing with tight harmonies and poetic lyrics.

The Deci-Belles is an independent women’s barbershop chorus. The Deci-Belles sing familiar songs, a cappella style in four-part harmony. Always striving for exceptional entertainment with choreography, costuming and great singing, the Deci-Belles present exciting programs that you’ll want to experience.

The Waazobia Band, led by Terry Emdin, will perform original songs and covers. Waazobia has a unique world experience and is a crowd favorite. The band is a Houston-based true Rasta Reggae Band, founded in 1986. The band consist of members from the African continent and USA. The word "WAAZOBIA" is a compound word (WAA - means "come" in Yoruba; ZO - means "come" in Hausa; BIA - means "come" in Igbo) representing "The coming together of all to revive in one Love."

Houston's own steel drum percussionist, Mark Mireles, will present a Carribbean-inspired concert featuring steel drums and acoustic guitars. Mark currently is the Steel Pannist for Texas beach music band, Jerry Diaz and Hannas Reef, which tours mostly on the US Gulf Coast. He is stepping out into a solo artist career in addition to playing with Hannas Reef. Mark has recorded percussion and guitar parts with numerous artists over the past 12 years. In 1994, Mark learned how to play the Steel Drums (or Pan as it is known in the Islands) and immediately garnered a position teaching the Pan in several high schools and colleges in the Houston area.

Saturday, August 3, at 6:00 pm
The Westbury UMC Worship Band will close the series with an outdoor concert filled with Westbury favorites from worship. The set will also include music by Stevie Wonder, Dave Matthews, The Beatles and others.
