Rev. Danny Yang

Senior Pastor

Danny grew up on the west side of Houston (Alief) and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked as a semiconductor engineer before following a call into full-time ministry. He received a Master of Divinity degree from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University.

Danny has ministered in a variety of contexts: Asian-American youth, college campus, young adults, poverty advocacy, and adult faith formation. He currently serves on the Board for the Texas Youth Academy and on the Clergy Recruitment Committee for the Texas Annual Conference. These experiences have taught Danny the importance of following Jesus with an awareness of one's culture and identity. He loves learning and teaching the Bible so that all might discover the unique ways God has created each of us to serve in the world.

Danny met his wife Susan in middle school orchestra and they have been married since 2000. Susan works as a benefits consultant, and they welcomed their daughter Ellie home in 2015.

Rev. Hannah Terry

Community Pastor

Born and raised in upstate New York, Hannah received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication from Roberts Wesleyan College and Master of Divinity degree from Duke University. She holds certification in Forming Missional Communities from The Academy for Missional Wisdom. As an ordained deacon, she serves alongside church and world as friend, neighbor, and visionary. Hannah discerned with Westbury UMC that southwest Houston needs holy friendships and trust-building across all boundaries and cultural differences. With young adults living in intentional Christian community, she founded FAM Houston — a ministry connecting neighbors for relationship building and equipping congregations to know their neighbors. Hannah's passions include neighborhood parties, Houston’s food scene, and her godchildren. She and her dog Grace live in The Heights.

My favorite time of day is... coffee time.

Bodie Gilbert

Pastor of Music and Worship

Bodie’s passion for connecting people of all ages and backgrounds into the experience of worship is the core of his ministry to our congregation.  He has served in full-time music ministry for over ten years, growing comprehensive worship and music programs known for their stylistic diversity and multigenerational connectedness.  As a postmodern Evangelical, Bodie's witness of faith is one that sees beyond the walls to a vision of red-letter Christianity, to a faith where science isn't the bad guy, and to a place where everyone is welcomed.

In addition to Bodie's roles as cantor and director to our music and arts ministries, he is active in serving on various boards and community groups seeking to embody grace to our city.  Bodie performs with the Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble Conspirare, appearing on recording projects and touring internationally.  He holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in Church Music studies from Baylor University and the Master of Divinity degree from George W. Truett Theological Seminary.

Bodie lives in the Heights neighborhood with his spouse, Marc, and enjoys vintage LPs, scuba diving, and NPR.

My favorite album is... anything Ella Fitzgerald.

My favorite travel experience so far is... Barcelona, Spain.

Steve Ewing

Business and Facilities Manager

My favorite time of day is... Saturday evening, just as the sun starts to set and the air cools. Particularly if our kids are in town, for that means the barbeque pit is going, ribs, burgers or fajitas are on the grill, and a bunch of their friends will be over. It does not get much better for us.
My favorite music to listen to while alone is... classic rock and roll from the '60s: Chicago, 3 Dog Night, Four Tops, Sam and Dave... or opera.

Jayson Brown

Safety Staff

Jayson Brown is a life-long member of Westbury UMC. He was baptized and confirmed at Westbury where he learned to love and serve the Lord by participating in the various activities offered to the youth of the church. Jayson’s abilities to empathize with and discern the needs of others have led him to his vocation of security at Westbury UMC and The Covenant House, a residential facility for at-risk youth. Jayson’s love for God and His Holy Word compelled him to take classes at The College of Biblical Studies and he constantly marvels at the universal tenets set forth in the Bible which are totally applicable to our lives today. He attends the University of Phoenix where he is majoring in business management. Jayson and his wife Tiesha are the thankful and proud parents of twins, Teagan and Tzion.

I want people to remember me as... a fun person to be around, outgoing, and loving.

My most spiritual moment was... experiencing child development from embryo to birth. Seeing the awesomeness of God. Having to lean hard on the healing power of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ when my wife became extremely ill during pregnancy, then seeing her pull through daily getting her strength back carrying a set of twins at the same time was an incredible work of God. Amen.
