Holy Thursday, March 24
Worship at 7 pm | Sanctuary
The journey to Easter continues with this Tenebrae Service, a solemn service of darkness as we recall Jesus’ final hours of betrayal. Music will be provided by the Sanctuary Choir, along with strings and oboe. The service will include scripture readings, candlelight, Holy Communion and a short sermon delivered by Rev. Hannah Terry.
Good Friday, March 25
Worship at Noon | Sanctuary
We will hold a service of remembrance on Good Friday. The Passion story will unfold as we hear Jesus’ final words from the cross and pray for the world. The narrative will be presented by multiple voices in chant, interspersed with hymns sung by the congregation. We will depart in reverence and silence, awaiting Christ's rising again.
* Parents, we encourage you to participate with your children in the fullness of Holy Week. Although the subject matter is difficult, the services are not intended to shock or scare. We will enter into the drama of the story as a contemplative practice. For the Holy Thursday service, you can preview ahead of time the scripture readings from Matthew 26 and 27; there will also be a loud organ effect at the end. For the Good Friday service, there will be scrolling images of classic art depicting Christ's crucifixion, but none in gory detail. John 18 and 19 will be the scripture texts for this service. Should you prefer, nursery care will be available in the Children's Wing for both services.
