FAQs

What's the difference between a tithe and an offering?
A scriptural tithe represents 10% of one's income and is a goal for all Christians as we strive to put God first in our lives. An offering can be defined as anything above and beyond the tithe.

How are my gifts used at Westbury UMC?
All gifts are honored and used to further the mission of Westbury UMC "to make followers of Jesus Christ who transform the community and the world through God's love." Your gifts help us fund community outreach, day-to-day ministries, facilities upkeep, staff salaries, covenant giving to the UMC and much more!

How do my gifts support the larger United Methodist Church?
John Wesley urged Methodists to be faithful and sacrificial givers. He once said, “Earn all you can, give all you can, save all you can.” Together, through our connected congregations, we accomplish what no single church, district or annual conference ever could hope to do alone. We combine our prayers, presence, gifts and service to make a significant difference in the lives of God's people and around the world.

Harvest of grain

"Each person should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." – 2 Corinthians 9:7

Jesus talked more about money and possessions that any other topic other than the kingdom of God itself. Often we can see where our priorities lie when we examine our spending habits.

It's important to remember that money doesn't define a ministry or determine our value as people of God. It is simply a response to the love of God and the abundant blessing God has given us in Jesus Christ. In this way, giving is an act of worship. May you discover the true joy of giving.
