Care is offered from 7:30 AM - 6:00 PM each school day and during many of the holidays when our school is closed. For families with children in both Day School and MDO there is care available from 9:00-9:30 AM and 1:00-2:00 PM on Mondays and Fridays. Each classroom is a happy, busy place where play and hands-on experiences are valued as the primary vehicles for learning.
Our Enrichment
Music
Music is offered each school day to all children. The class is led by two music teachers who engage the children in singing, dancing, movement, or playing musical instruments.
Spanish
Children in three-year-old and four-year-old classes attend Spanish class twice a week. The curriculum includes learning the Spanish words for colors, shapes, animals and family names They also sing songs and hear stories in Spanish.
Chapel
Children attend chapel twice a month in the Sanctuary. Parents are always welcome to join us.
Field Trips
Twos, threes, and fours have carefully selected in-house programs which involve community agencies and services. These include firefighters, policemen, veterinarians, dentists, public librarians, former NASA astronauts, members of the Houston Symphony, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Trail riders, the Singing Cowboy, and “Mother Goose.”
Our Facilities
Playgrounds
Outdoor play on two beautiful playgrounds is part of each child’s day. One playground is designed for toddlers and two year olds and the other offers more advanced slides, a new garden box, and climbing structures for older children.
Humphrey Hall
Children enjoy playing in our indoor gym on inclement weather days. It is equipped with children’s indoor play equipment.
Registration
We recommend a tour of our school to visit classes and to gather information so you can determine whether our program will best meet your child’s needs. Students are enrolled in order of registration, subject to age-group limits. To apply, a child must be two by September 1 and must be toilet trained before starting the three year old class. A waiting list is kept for each age group.
Westbury Methodist Day School was established in 1968. Enrollment is open to all children aged 2 years to 4 years, regardless of race, color, creed, national or ethnic origin. We celebrate the diversity of our students and their families.
Teachers
Quality and continuity of staff are important parts of our early childhood programs. Our teachers are dedicated, caring professionals who enjoy working with young children. We maintain a ratio of 1:5 in our two year old classes, 1:7 in our three year old classes and 1:8 in our four year old classes. Each class is staffed with one lead teacher and one support teacher. Our teachers are highly qualified, having college degrees, CDA certification or experience in early childhood education.
